About the Fleapit
fleapit: noun - informal British
- an old, dirty, run-down theatre or cinema
The Fleapit was created by Matthew Donlan with one goal - to present a cross-section of the film scene in Sydney. From underground screenings in the Inner West to a fancy night at the Opera House, The Fleapit is the central location to find out about it.
Contribute
The Fleapit is currently not in a position to pay contributors but is always welcome to guest articles. If you are keen to write something for the newsletter, send an email through with a little bit about yourself (film interests etc) and what you would like to write about. From there we can chat the best way to get something published. Make sure to read the ‘Guiding Principles’ below to get a sense of the tone.

Guiding principles
The Fleapit is guided by a set of values which it believes is integral to the film scene in Australia.
- No AI is to be used in the writing, researching or editing of articles, assets or any other component of this newsletter. It must have a human voice behind it.
- We prioritise small, underground, independent, marginalised and local work. When larger institutions are discussed, it is important to examine their contribution/consequences to culture and discourse.
- The context in which you view a film is sometimes more important (and more interesting) than the film itself. The act of watching a film with friends and strangers is integral to the cinematic community and collective experience.
The Fleapit would like to acknowledge the Gadigal of the Eora Nation, the traditional custodians of the Country on which it operates. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

'On This And That' is a fortnightly newsletter by the Fleapit's regular-guest contributor, Helena Williams, where she dives into the back catalogue of Australian cinema, reappraises the film and finds its relevance to today's culture.
